Airtels cable television unit has won a bid by Bharat Electronics Ltd.
to offer its internet TV services in the country.
The bid for the company’s services, worth about $2.7 billion, is in line with the industry’s growing focus on online video and other content delivery services.
Bharti said the plan is to provide internet television services to customers by 2021.
The telecoms group said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bhartis cable TV unit for the digital services.
The Bhartipad TV service, which is based in Mumbai, is expected to launch in 2020, it said in a statement.
